One-click event annotations may only be scored in Pro Mode - 8/5/2025

This posting serves as an explanation to demonstrate the difference in scoring events between Basic (Classic) Scoring and Pro Scoring Modes.

In Basic Scoring Mode, scoring events is exactly the same as the old "classic" Sleep ISR: You must use either the keyboard hotkey shortcuts or the right click context menu to score events. However, in Pro Scoring Mode we have recently introduced "precision scoring" which means you must mark events using one-click annotations.

In other words, notes that are marked by annotations or "tags" will not count towards grading in Basic, they only count in Pro.

We notify scorers about this distinction between scoring events in Basic vs. Pro in three locations:

1) The warning below is displayed to anyone that opens a record in Basic Scoring Mode

2) As shown in the pop-up on the dashboard, in “Basic” you must use the keyboard shortcut hotkeys or the right click context menu to register events (in contrast to “Pro” when you can use one-click annotations to score).

3) in addition to the pop-up explanations above, we have built in an epoch-by-epoch warning pop-up system that STOPS the ability to advance to the next epoch until events are entered in the keyboard. It includes further explanation and reads as follows:

We hope that this demonstration helps you to score events efficiently in whichever scoring mode that you choose. Going forward, if you wish to use annotated events in your grading you must select Pro Scoring Mode instead of Basic, which only recognized keyboard entries.  Continue Reading

Important Announcement Regarding Scoring of Hypopneas - 6/12/2018

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) Board of Directors recently approved a position statement that concluded that polysomnography for obstructive sleep apnea should include arousal-based scoring.  This position statement provides further support for the recommended Hypopnea rule that has been in place since 2013. To better align with the position statement, starting with the September 2018 record, AASM’s Inter-scorer Reliability assessment system will follow the recommended rule for scoring of hypopneas (D. 1A) as outlined in the AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events.

D. 1A. Score a respiratory event as a hypopnea if ALL of the following criteria are met:

a)       The peak signal excursions drop by ≥30% of pre-event baseline using nasal pressure (diagnostic study), PAP device flow (titration study), or an alternative hypopnea sensor (diagnostic study).

b)      The duration of the ≥30% drop in signal excursion is ≥10 seconds.

c)       There is a ≥3% oxygen desaturation from pre-event baseline or the event is associated with an arousal.

Leading up to the switch in September, we will provide additional resources to better prepare you for scoring hypopneas following the recommended rule.

*Please note, both the recommended and acceptable rule for hypopnea scoring remains unchanged within the Scoring Manual.
